বোয়াল মাছ-Wallago

চাঁদপুরের পদ্মা-মেঘনা নদীর মোহনার বোয়াল মাছ স্বাদ ও বৈশিষ্ট্যের দিক থেকে অনন্য। চাঁদপুর ইলিশের জন্য বিখ্যাত হলেও, এখানকার তীব্র স্রোতস্বিনী নদীগুলোর বোয়াল মাছের চাহিদাও বেশ চড়া।

প্রাকৃতিক খাবার: পদ্মা ও মেঘনার মোহনায় প্রচুর পরিমাণে ছোট ছোট মাছ (যেমন: চাপিলা, কাচকি, ছোট চিংড়ি) থাকে। বোয়াল মূলত শিকারী মাছ হওয়ায় এই পুষ্টিকর লাইভ ফিড বা জীবন্ত ছোট মাছ খেয়ে বড় হয়। ফলে এদের পুষ্টিগুণ ও স্বাদ বহুগুণ বেড়ে যায়।

আকার: চাঁদপুরের নদীগুলোতে প্রায়ই বেশ বড় আকারের বোয়াল মাছ ধরা পড়ে। ৫ কেজি থেকে শুরু করে ১০-১২ কেজি বা তারচেয়েও বড় সাইজের বোয়াল মাছ এখানকার জেলেরা ধরে থাকেন। বড় আকারের বোয়ালগুলো “বাঘা বোয়াল” নামেও পরিচিত।

নদীর আসল বোয়াল চেনার উপায় হলো—এর গায়ের রঙ কিছুটা উজ্জ্বল রূপালী-ধূসর হবে এবং শরীর বেশ শক্ত ও টানটান থাকবে।

“The Boal fish from the confluence of the Padma and Meghna rivers in Chandpur is unique in terms of both taste and characteristics. Although Chandpur is famous for its Hilsa, the demand for Boal fish from these swift-flowing rivers is also remarkably high.

Natural Food: The confluence of the Padma and Meghna is home to an abundance of small fish (such as Chapila, Kachki, and small shrimp). Being inherently a predatory fish, the Boal grows by feeding on this nutritious live feed or living small fish. As a result, its nutritional value and taste enhance manifold.

Size: Very large-sized Boal fish are frequently caught in the rivers of Chandpur. Fisherman here catch Boal fish ranging from 5 kg to as big as 10–12 kg or even more. These large-sized Boals are also popularly known as ‘Bagha Boal’ (Tiger Boal).

The way to identify an authentic river Boal is—its body color will be a somewhat bright silvery-gray, and its flesh will be quite firm and taut.”
